The Move In.

In my previous post I talked about "5 Things They Don't Tell You About Moving In Together." I wanted to take a step further in today's post to tell you a more detailed account of things I did and have noticed about the days following the move in with my ex (almost) husband.

When we were dating and before we got married my ex (almost) husband was all about getting married after we graduated college and started a career. He was in school to become a physical therapist and it would have taken more than 5 years to complete all the schooling, etc. that he needed to start a career.

... then less than 6 months later we found out that I was pregnant with my now 3 year old... and he proposed. THIS was a red flag for my parents... why I did not listen? I don't know.

I honestly don't even remember them saying anything about it.

Other before we were married things I knew but never addressed... I knew he was a cheater. I found videos, images, text messages, etc. on his p…

The Renovation of our Nightmares!

If you have ever watched HGTV then you have probably seen the TV shows about the couples who buy houses that they flip into something amazing! Well... we didn't buy a house, and we didn't flip it into anything amazing, BUT we did flip it and it was a NIGHTMARE!

(Insert name here) took his plea bargain in court and was sentenced to 6 months in the city jail, with 10 years probation and put on the sex registry for life. Once all of this happened we started finding out the rules weren't as pretty or as straight forward as they should be.

- you can't live within so many feet of a school without such and such.
- you can't walk within so many feet of a school or place where children gather.
- you can't do this.
- you can't be here.

....etc. etc.

So where would we live?
Above his dads auto shop, in a four bedroom apartment that was full of grease, junk car parts, tires, and rat shit... tons and tons of rat shit. Not to mention the leaking roof, the rot and the mold.

We had 3 months. 3 months to clean out the junk, clean, replace the instillation, repair dry wall, repaint, recarpet (some, not all of the rooms), and move our stuff in.

My family spent every waking moment in that apartment throwing away junk, moving tires... I am telling you there is no possible way to explain to you the amount of stuff that was thrown up there.
His mom re-did the drywall in the baby's nursery. His dad ... well they ripped a and tore up the floor and wall in the dining room that was rotted out... but that was never finished.
I spent 3000$+ of my own and others donations replacing everything I could financially replace inside of that apartment.
Still.. we didn't replace the carpet, and we didn't ever finish the dining room, or fix the leaking roof.

The nursery that we painted navy blue and silver for my son was never used. The room my daughter loved so much was painted pink and purple and was HUGE. She had everything she could ask for and more in there.
BUT it smelled like mildew constantly. The roof leaked into the babies nursery and ruined the brand new drywall before we ever even used it. Ruined the perfect, clean, beautiful new carpet that I had just picked out and paid for.
The carpet in the rest of the house was disgusting to step on.
The kitchen was unbearable to cook in... why? because less than 3 months ago I had just seen rat shit all over the stove, counters, floor, EVERYWHERE!

By the time (insert name here) was released from jail it was "ready." But I still would not have called it livable, even though we were living there.

Winter came and we had no heater. It was nearly 40 degrees up there. When I told him we were going to my moms until it was fixed he was angry... ummm yeah?
The kids were bundled in huge coats and layers of clothes, I could not even function properly because I was freezing.

The wifi never even worked properly and we didn't have cable or DVDs to watch.

It was seriously the biggest nightmare EVER!
To this day I still do not see how he came to the conclusion that it would ever work!

What kind of renovation horror stories do you have? Do they compare?
Let me know in the comments!
